Performance and Visual Arts Law

We have extensive experience in this field, having acted for entities both commercial and charitable involved in theatre, comedy and contemporary dance production, in addition to organisations staging or curating art exhibitions, mixed media and installations, and televised productions.

Although our law firm acts for a number of people involved in the fine arts, the majority of our work in this area relates to the application of art, photography, sculpture and craft work in film, publishing and analogous new media contexts. Similarly, we represent individuals and administrators in the general arts and performing arts sector but our primary emphasis is on structuring organisations and the funding, production, licensing or exploitation of their output.

The types of agreements encompassed by this field are broad, but typically include:
  • Incorporating and structuring commercial and charitable organisations
  • Contracting creatives and performers in addition to arts administrators
  • Protection of intellectual property
  • Venue and performer agreements
