Sinclair Black was founded in 1989 by Mick Sinclair and has evolved to become one of the leading specialist entertainment/media law practices in New Zealand.
We represent a number of film and television producers, cast and crew, directors, writers, agents and distributors, and have provided legal advice to industry organisations, such as the Technicians Guild, the Directors Guild and the Writers Guild. Mick Sinclair is also on the board of Black Grace Dance Company and the New Zealand Comedy Trust.
In the music industry, we represent a number of independent record labels and publishers, tour promoters, band managers and agents.
We also act for a number of "creatives" within the entertainment and media field generally, including journalists, literary and magazine publishers and writers, advertising agencies, composers and musicians, event and tour promoters, sports organisations and athletes. We have recently expanded into the information technology, gaming and electronic commerce areas.
We believe in developing long-term relationships with our clients and aim to provide high quality services at a cost that only a small specialist firm can deliver. We have also built up associations with leading entertainment law firms in the UK, the USA and Australia, which can be useful for New Zealand clients doing business in those regions. This is reflected in our inclusion in the EuroMoney "Guide to the World's Leading Media and Entertainment Lawyers".
This year we are proud to have acted as the New Zealand production lawyers for the film "World's Fastest Indian" and once again have provided legal advice to the finalists of "NZ Idol 2005".
We are about to launch our quarterly newsletter publication, which will focus on current issues in entertainment and media law. The first issue will be published on this web site shortly.
